Welcome to West Canal Hall! I am excited to have you as a member of our residential community. Canal Hall is one of four Residence Halls on the Brighton MCC campus, divided into East, West and Central sections. With 366 students we are the largest of the halls and provide a unique living experience for students. The building contains four and five person suites with individual and double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen and a living area. We highly encourage you and your suitemates to make this space your own, as it will be your home for the year. Our residence hall program is designed to provide you opportunities for cultural, recreational, social, and academic growth. We look forward to spending time with you getting to know you and helping you to navigate college life here at MCC.
The hall contains several staff members to assistant you as a residential student and help guide you in your college career. West Canal Hall specifically has five Resident Assistants (RA’s) and one Residence Director (RD). Canal Hall as a whole has 11 RA’s and 2 RDs.
RA’s or Resident Assistants are student leaders who live on your floor and are available as a resource. They will plan events, enforce policies and procedures and help with any issues you may experience as a residential student.
RDs are professional live-in staff that are also here to aid with any questions, concerns, comments that you may have while living on campus. In addition, RD’s also help with planning programs, and enforcing policies and procedures.
As you embark on the start of what I hope will be one of the best experiences of your life, I encourage you to take advantage of the leadership, involvement and services opportunities that are available to you. You can find out about all the opportunities via our website at(web.monroecc.edu/westcanalhall/) which is up and running and will be updated routinely to make sure you have the latest campus and housing news.
If you have any questions or concerns, or just feel like stopping in and saying “hi” my office is on the first floor of Canal Hall, in the lobby just past the RA desk. Open office hours are posted if you need to speak to me or you can make an appointment with me via email at dgraupman2@monroecc.edu. If my door is open, please stop in and introduce yourself. I look forward to getting to know you.
Sincerely, Dave Graupman, West Canal Hall Resident Director
