Weekly Lecture Announcements for Fall 2009

Week #	Lecture	Conference	Clinical Laboratory
1	- Pick up lecture handouts - Be sure to sign in on the attendance sheet	Bring: Department of Nursing NUR 111 course outline (the entire document). Complete before conference: Informal Writing Exercise #1 from NUR 111 course outline (Found under the 'Informal Writing' tab near back of Outline).	All clinical groups will start at 7:30 am and end at 1:30 pm for weeks 1, 2, and 3 Required Nurse Supply Kit Items: - pair of sterile gloves - procedure mask (may be inside isolation gown) - isolation gown NUR 111 outline pages: skill evaluations for measuring blood pressure and measuring radial pulse.
2	Complete math homework sheet distributed today in lecture. Bring: calculator to Week #3 lecture.	All clinical groups will start at 7:30 am and end at 1:30 pm for weeks 1, 2, and 3 Required Nurse Supply Kit Items: - 4-5 pair of clean gloves Math Pre-test is due in clinical laboratory week #2 (remember to review rounding and zero rules).
3	Bring: calculator. View (on your own time) DVD-071: Medication Administration and Error Prevention: The Six Rights of Medication Administration (29 minutes) PRIOR to week #4 Pharmacology lecture.		All clinical groups will start at 7:30 am and end at 1:30 pm for weeks 1, 2, and 3 Nurses Note #1 due. Complete this assignment prior to coming to clinical. Wear your MCC uniform to clinical this week. We will meet on campus at 7:30 am in 9-219. -Bring week #3 Clinical Guide and your clinical notebook.

4	Exam starts: Tuesday: NUR 111-100 at 7:30 am Wednesday: NUR 111-101 at 7:30 am Bring: · #2 pencils with eraser · Black pen · Calculator: Sharp model #EL-243S or #EL- 243 SB Calculators will be checked upon entering and exiting the exam. Bring: Ladwig & Ackley textbook to lecture for week #5.	Bring your calculator to conference week #4 and week #5.     Bring: Nursing Drug Reference Book and Berman text to conference weeks 4 and 5	Informal Writing #2 due at end of the clinical day.
5	Bring: Ladwig & Ackley textbook	Bring your calculator, Drug Book and Berman text. Remember this is a continuation of week #4 conference.	Bring: Ladwig & Ackley textbook. Activity & Skin Process Paper data collection.
6		Required Nurse Supply Kit Items: - Original content list or bookstore receipt. Bring: Large puncture proof container such as Tupperware or coffee can with lid to transport syringes and needles home. View before next week: DVD-905, DVD-906, & DVD-907 "Enteral Feeding Tubes: A guide for Nurses" parts 1, 2, & 3	Nurses Note #2 due.

Required Nurse Supply Kit Items: - 60 ml piston syringe irrigation set - Stethoscope (if you prefer your own).	Test out on skills. ALL SKILLS NEED TO MEET STANDARDS BY END OF WEEK # 13 (Wednesday, December 2, 2009 @ 1:50 PM)

Please dress so you will be able to remove your shirt, shoes and socks. Gym shorts may facilitate exam of femoral and popliteal pulses. Urinary & Bowel Elimination/Oxygen/Rest and Sleep Evaluation Paper to be completed in clinical this week. Professional Literature Assignment to be completed by this week (or per clinical faculty).

14	Course evaluations can be completed on-line. - Evaluations need to be submitted by the day of the final exam. Final 'Dosage Calculation Competency' exam this week. Check your calendar for days, times and locations.	Required Nurse Supply Kit Items: -500 ml bag of NS -Primary IV tubing Administration set. -Watch with second hand.	Bring: Ladwig & Ackley textbook Safety & Security Evaluation Paper due by end of clinical day. Physical Assessment Exercise-Part II due by end of clinical day. Informal Writing #3 due by end of clinical day.
15	Course evaluations can be completed on-line.   - Evaluations need to be completed by the day of the final exam.		Complete self-evaluation CPA. Bring this with you to your CPA appointment with your clinical faculty member. Also bring your completed Clinical Experience Record to your CPA appt.
