Student Services & Learning Communities

The successful inplementaion of Learning Communities (LC) at Monroe Community College's Damon City Campus was a collaborative effort between Academic Services and Student Services.
In the interest of student success, non-teaching and teaching faculty joined forces to offer students a new approach to learning. As a result of this collaboration, the following process was put into action:
* Research was conducted leading to the implementation of Learning Communities at the Damon City Campus.
* A paper was co-authored called "Investigating a Plan to Institute Learning Communities at Monroe Community College". To read this paper, click on this link: Read All About It.
* The first Learning Communities Conference was organized at Monroe Community College.
* Recommendations about Learning Communities were presented to the Vice Presidential staff.
As part of our current role, Student Services staff work with faculty to:
* Assist with advisement, registration and financial aid.
* Recruit students by offering classroon presentations during pre-registration and orientation.
* Create awarenes of MCC resources with emphasis on Student Services for all LC students.
* Provide individual counseling
* Provide specialized workshops
* Serve as mediators in situations of conflict.
* Help to develop co-curricular programming integrated with learning community courses.
* Assist with assessment measurements ( pre/post surveys, focus groups).
* Assist with training faculty/staff who advise students into Learning Communities.
