One site visited by this learning community was the PSTF (Public Safety Training Facility). This is a cooperative effort involving the County of Monroe, the City of Rochester and Monroe Community College. This facility trains police officers, correction officers, EMTs, firefighters, paramedics and security personnel. Just recently opened, it is a state of the art facility.

While at the PSTF, the group visit the TEAM Incident Board which is used to simulate various types of emergencies and disasters. The purpose is to have all personnel at the site of an incident (EMTs, police officers, firefighters etc.) cooperate with each other by understanding each other's distinctiver roles and responsibilities.
No trip to the PSTF would be complete without a demonstration at the Firefighters Academy. Here very real fires are fed by propane. During an actual training exercise, computer sensors monitor the amount of material applied to the fire. Enough material must be aplied , or the fire will not be extinguished.
