Israel

Hillel of Rochester Area Colleges (HORAC) sponsors FREE trips to Israel every year! The trip is called Taglit-Birthright Israel (or BRI), and it lasts 10 days. This trips is designated specifically for Jewish 18-to-26-year-olds who have never been to Israel on a peer-organized trip OR who lived there but moved away before they turned 12.
We send one trip every winter and one to two every summer. (Usually, one of the summer groups is designated as quad-lingual, and incorporates spoken English and Hebrew as well as American and Israeli Sign Languages. We try to reserve this trip for Jewish deaf and hard-of-hearing students, but anyone is welcome!) Trips go to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, the Golan Heights, they stay on a Kibbutz, climb Masada, and see Yad Vashem (the Israeli Holocaust Museum), and of course... they ride a camel!!!
Registration for the Winter 2008/2009 trip is currently CLOSED. We will post here when registration for summer trips opens!
If you aren't eligible for this specific trip, we do have many other ways for you to get to Israel! You can even get substantial scholarships for most of them! Contact Rich at rgordon@admin.rochester.edu for more information.
