* You may attend the field trip and complete the project associated with the field trip OR you may complete the marine sanctuary paper. You must complete one of the two options!
* Each is worth 50 points but remember you must complete only one!
FIELD TRIP OPTION – Aquarium of Niagara

Description: This field trip consists of completing several worksheets consisting of questions pertaining to information available at the various aquarium tanks and displays.
Details: The students will need to drive themselves to the aquarium in Niagara Falls (approx. 1.5 hours from Rochester). We will meet at the aquarium at 10:30 AM where you will receive the worksheets and attendance will be taken. Then you will proceed around the aquarium completing the worksheets. The worksheets will be turned in before leaving the aquarium. There is a $4.50 fee for entering the aquarium.
PAPER OPTION – Marine Sanctuaries
Due Date: Friday, May 2nd, 2008
Description: Choose a marine sanctuary from the list below (for descriptions of each as well as links to additional websites for each sanctuary go to the following website http://www.sanctuaries.nos.noaa.gov/oms/oms.html ). Write a 3-4 page paper that answers, at minimum, the following questions:
Where is it?
Why is it a marine sanctuary? What types of resources are there? What is being "protected" or preserved?
What is its geologic/physical setting (rocks, minerals, geologic features/structures etc.)?
What about the biology?
How is the sanctuary regulated? What types of activities are allowed in the sanctuary?
Is there any current research being conducted in this sanctuary? If so, describe what types of research.

Details: The format* for this paper is as follows:
Title page consisting of the name of the sanctuary, your name, the course name and the date
The body of the paper must be written in Times New Roman Font, 12 point, double spaced with 1 inch margins on all sides. Within the body of the paper, all sources of information "not from your own mind" must be sited with the authors name and the year of publication OR the web address.
A work cited page must be included. You must use at least three (3) different sources.
*If any of the above format requirements are not correct, your grade will be decreased by 10 points. If you have any questions on how to set up a paper with the above format PLEASE ask me!
