Current Issues

There are a variety of current issues facing Monroe Community College.  Student Government is often a liaison between administration and the student body, and attending Senate meetings on Tuesdays at 2:15 pm (located in the forum) is an excellent way to have your voice be heard.

MCC Presidential Selection Process

Board of Trustees Meeting, March 24th 2008 @ 3pm

This meeting will declare the finalists of the next President of MCC.

This is bigger then you think, for reasons that unfortunatly may include Monroe County Politics.  THIS CANT HAPPEN.  Do you like your education, show up so you can keep getting the quality you deserve.

New Smoking Policy

MCC's personal health and safety committee has recommended a new smoking policy for the Brighton Campus.  Based on SUNY guidelines, MCC wants to take an approach similar to a smoking policy you may find in hospitals, "smoke free in and out." This would require no smoking on campus, except for outside a strictly enforced border.  Along this border would reside ash tray receptacles.

This policy would reform many problems that non smokers face every day on campus.  There are often complaints of walking through clouds of smoke at building entries, smoking next to critical air intake ducts, and brush fires that result from improperly discarded cigatette butts in mulch and gardens around campus.

Some may see this policy harsh, and others may see it fitting.  However, right now this is only a proposal.  Whether or not this policy becomes official is based on feedback from the MCC community.

Student Government is strongly interested in what any students have to say about this issue, as it is our job to represent the student body.  Please visit our Senate meetings (Tuesdays at 2:15 in the Forum) or email Dan Elliott, the Student Government president at delliott015@student.monroecc.edu . Please respond before October 5, 2007.
