Our Mission Statement

The Brighton Campus Student Government empowers students and encourages involvement by connecting with and guiding students through their college experience.

To ensure that our Student Government is prosperous and productive this year, we established our mission statement early on to reflect what Student Government's job is on campus. All the folks in the Student Government are committed to being the voice of the students--to empower them and guide them through this new journey they embark on.

From our mission, we have established goals that will further our position as the student's voice and representation on all matters concerning them. The Brighton Student Government is determined to strengthen our organization, unite all facets of MCC and become a sustainable voice in all campus affairs. By planning for the future and developing our returning students, our organization will grow and become a stronger, more endowed representative body where students can openly and freely discuss issues of concern.

We learned much from past year's mistakes and were not afraid to challenge the status quo. Keeping a solid record of our achievements and progress over the year will translate into a wealth of knowledge for future governments who we will instill with the same beliefs regarding student development that we strive for every day. The path of student development is enhanced by effective lines of communication between all of MCC's stakeholders.

Creating more interaction and increasing the communication between our Brighton Campus and the Damon Campus will empower even more students and guide our organizations down a charted path, together, not alone. We stand to show the students our capabilities and invite faculty and administration to play key roles in providing students with the knowledge and information they need to have so we can better our role as their voice.

Using the faculty and administration as a resource rather than a hindrance, the Student Government automatically plays a bigger role in campus affairs. Using them and other mediums to broadcast our mission is key to our organization becoming more visible.

We are committed to playing a bigger role in campus life, both in and outside of the classroom and we encourage students who are concerned with any campus matter to approach us with no reservation, but they must know who we are to do so.

In an effort to become more visible, we have begun taking steps to increase our face value and promote our organization so that all students benefit. Our mutual benefit is at stake. The voice of the students must be heard and the Student Government must effectively relay the concerns that are that of the general student body. Students must utilize their voice on campus and demand real change in areas that require it. We are happy to serve as that voice, but the students must act as our eyes and ears in this endeavor.

We welcome you to our Senate meetings, Tuesdays at 2:15 in the Forum (3-130) and encourage you to stand up and take a stance on important issues.
