Affiliations of the FA

The FA is affiliated with the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) on the state level. NYSUT is a statewide union consisting of more than 600,000 teachers, professors, professional staff and school related personnel including professional staff members of SUNY, CUNY, community colleges, and private sector higher education institutions in New York State.

Locally, it is through the NYSUT office in Rochester that the FA receives assistance in the areas of negotiation, arbitration, legal assistance and membership services. Statewide, NYSUT provides a powerful and effective lobbying effort in Albany on behalf of its community college locals. NYSUT is frequently successful in lobbying and restoring state aid to the community colleges.

The FA is also affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) based in Washington, D.C. Through the strong, effective leadership of Randi Weingarten, the AFT provides our local with valuable research and an effective national lobby, as well as a host of member benefits.

Our affiliation with the Rochester Labor Council, AFL-CIO, provides a powerful network uniting the local unions in Monroe County.
